The Zest team just got bigger with Gold Coast based artist Mealie Batchelor joining the family.

Mealie left the corporate graphic design/multimedia world ten years ago to concentrate on creating artworks across many disciplines including painting, sculpture, illustration and murals but didn’t find chalk until 2007 when she was looking to learn more about drawing and to interact with the public.

“I really do love chalk art cause I get out there with the public and the fact that it’s not permanent is really fun”.

It was this discovery which lead her to Zest. Managing Director Andi Mether met Mealie at Chalk The Walk at Surfers Paradise in 2008. She went on to win Best Newcomer at Chalk Urban Art Festival 2011.

“I’m constantly on the lookout for new talent, I’m very discerning about who joins the Zest team.  It’s one thing to take part in a competition or work from your own studio, quite another to respond to a brief.  Mealie struck me straight away, her skills, her nature, the way she conducted herself with the public. I’ve stayed in contact with her ever since”.

Her introduction to Zest was at V8 Superfest Goldcoast in 2013 where she collaborated with lead artist Rudy Kistler. Since then she has worked on Gold Coast Pet and Animal Expo and more recently, Mealie completed a mural for the latest Bailey Nelson boutique in Brisbane.

On top of her obvious artistic talent, Mealie has a passion for teaching art through workshops. “I like to inspire other people. I think everyone is an artist inside and I like to help bring that out”.

Mealie is inspired by nature and incorporates many physical elements of into her pieces. “The influences in my artwork are definitely the environment and I like to recycle with my sculptures as well.”

Mealie is available to for 3D chalk art, art workshops, performing live at events and festivals and producing murals and sculptures.
